Guild - Programs

The Northern Virginia Urban League Guild is dedicated to enriching the lives of pre-school, elementary, junior and high school youth who live in the Northern Virginia area.  In addition, the Guild continues to serve as ambassadors to augment and promote the Northern Virginia Urban League’s effort to reach out and address the economic and social needs of Northern Virginia’s minorities, its elderly citizens and the financially disadvantaged population within our communities.  Some of the Guild programs are:

  • The Alexandria Pre-School Network.  The Guild plans and executes activities and projects with The Pre-School Network Staff
  • Summer camp scholarships for financially disadvantaged area youth.
  • The National Achievers Society, which recognizes and awards area youth who academically achieve A & B averages (grades 3 through 12).
  • Financial support for “National Urban League’s Incentive to Excel and Succeed Program” that is designed to develop leadership skills, encourage community support and expose participants to positive cultural and recreational activities.
  • Each year the Guild sponsors at least 40 or 50 minority and other disadvantaged males and females students in our area who were unable take the SAT because they can not afford to pay the fee required for the test.
  • Each year we award a $5,000 Scholarships annually to a high school senior.
